disney world -- stay on or off disney property?

We are looking at going late May or early June. Two kids 13 and 9. Which is best -- stay at DW property or not? Looks like higher priced, but more convenient, and saves time. And any recommended property that are not the highend resorts?

For a Moderate, I highly recomend the Port Orleans Riverside. It really is worth staying on Disney Property to get the Whole experience.

Have a look at

allears.net/acc/faq_dxl.htm

The have some rooms with an extra trundle bed, nice option if the kids need a bed to them seleves.

The grounds are beautiful and the Pool and Hot Tub are great. The food court was re-done last year and has some very yummy options. The Boat to DTD is another nice perk,

we have stayed in the moderate and value resorts at disney....the past several trips, we have stayed at Pop Century (one of the disney value resorts) and been perfectly happy....we just couldnt see spending the extra money for other resorts when we spend all of our time in the parks....all disney resorts offer that special magical feeling with attention to detail....they all have beautifully manicured grounds, great pools, dining and transportation to the parks....the rooms at the values are smaller but very clean and meet the needs of sleeping and bathing which is basically all we do at our resort....we do enjoy time in the pools after a long day at the park.....so if you want to stay on-site but not pay a huge amount of money, the value resorts are the way to go

To get the full Disney experience, stay on the property if you can....also, don%26#39;t immediately exclude the deluxe resorts just because of category...

Wildnerness is beautiful and you may be able to get it for slighty more than the moderate hotels even though it is in the deluxe category (same with Animal Kingdom)...I have been researching April...Port Orleans for 5 nights/6 days, 1 adult, 2 children was $1900...Wildnerness and AK for same period was $2300. My nieces love, love Wilderness. We have stayed at Wildnerness 3X, Poly 1X and AK 1X)..They choose WL...queen vs. double beds, bunk beds (for kids with upgrade), the lodge atmosphere (wow..the fireplace, the stream)...pool, geyser,

quick boat ride to MK..ability to see the water parade (this is visible from other properties as well). The added convenience of adding all charges and purchases to to your room is nice...

Check all your options and if possible, book a Disney hotel.

Cheers,

M

PS..there are quite a few current threads on this very topic.

The answer is usually, ';It depends.';

If you are only going to Disney, then staying on property is definitely a great choice, esp. if you won%26#39;t have a car. (If you%26#39;re flying in, you even get free airport transportation.)

If you%26#39;re going to Universal, Seaworld, etc. then maybe/maybe not.

If you%26#39;re staying long enough that you%26#39;re going to wish you had a kitchen, Disney isn%26#39;t the place to find inexpensive kitchen options. You can find less expensive places with kitchens/kitchenettes very close by, but off property.

If you%26#39;re going to be eating in the Disney parks all the time anyway, staying at a Disney resort gives you the opportunity to buy the Disney dining plan which is definitely worth the money if you would eat at least one Table Service (sit-down restaurant) meal per day. This is great if you plan to do character meals.

I hope this helps a little!

Have a wonderful trip!

check out this thread. This topic is covered very well.

For me the answer is no,

The only perk we found staying on site is the chance to use WDW transportation.

The extra hours need to be planned or there gone in a wisp. Never could get up early tho.

The prices someone quoted $2300 for a stay at AKL........for 5 nights.........They have to be the smallest rooms in Florida. You can stay in a 3000 sq ft villa with its own pool for $900 a week.

Its alright if you come from and live in America.........you will not be too interested in the surrounding shop%26#39;s, restaurants etc.

For the likes of you and me its important to see the surrounding area and get to try all its delights.

If you stay is a short one of less than a week........go for it.

If you are doing more than that and doing 2 - 3 weeks then you will pull you hair out in the small room that Disney supply, I will guarantee you will all fall out with each other by the time week 2 comes around.

Happy Holidays

Depends how long you%26#39;re going for. If you only have a couple of days and just want to do Disney, then stay on site. If you are going for two weeks and want to do everything, then you have plenty of time so go for a villa, as you will have more space, can do some meals for yourself, just order pizza etc., and save money. I have tried both ways and now always go for a villa. Have a look at www.just-orlando-villas.com, they have some marvellous ones and you book with the owner, saving even more money!!

I agree with Tiger. If you are a family and are staying in the room for a week, the smaller Disney properties are going to have kids at each other%26#39;s throats by the middle of the week! I would not stay in a Disney property if I was doing other parks. If just Disney, then yes, the value is right there. However, I have teens, and we stay in a three bedroom villa in Kissimee, and have almost 2,000 square feet, four beds and three bathrooms, so we all have our own space. I also cook in the kitchen it comes with, and save tons of dough on that. We only eat out maybe twice, and make our food for the parks. I don%26#39;t like %26#39;hotel living%26#39; and that is what I get at the Disney resorts. I like %26#39;plush living%26#39;, with room to spread out, and survive with three tvs! LOL It is all up to you though. What is important to you and your family. Mine is sanity, no fighting, and saving money!

Hello khazz,

We%26#39;ve stayed both on and off property and much prefer staying on property when visting the Disney parks and I do recommend it. For a moderate priced resort I recommend the Port Orleans Riverside. Yes, the Disney resort rooms are a bit small however you are rarely in your room and the convenience can%26#39;t be beat! Disney%26#39;s Magical Express is also offered when staying on property which includes your luggage being picked up at the airport and delievered to your room which is another nice perk. When visiting Orlando and visiting Universal, Sea World and Discovery Cove among other attractions we stay at the Hard Rock when making it an ';outside'; Disney vacation.

We also stayed at Port Orleans and had a great time. The rooms were very clean and the grounds were great. They have bikes, boats and a fishing hole for the kids. Nice eatery and very clean. Also they have a resturant were they had live entertainment and video room for kids.

Plus they have a boat that runs to other parts of disney. Lots of fun!
