hotel in Fort Lauderdale

Hello travel friends.

We are thinking of going to Fort Lauderdale in july 08.Have looked at several hotels, and have almost decided on Gallery One , a Doubletree hotel. Only one thing we are wondering about is if the pool is very small. We stay a lot by the pool, and it is important to us that it is nice. We are 2 adults and a teenager 16 years old.

Have also looked at a Best Western near Las Olas, any suggestions?

Thank you for any help.

The pool area at the Doubletree is very nice, the pool is average size but the deck is quite large by comparison, also they have a little faux beach area which overlooks the intercoastal. July is low season so I doubt that the pool will be crowded. I assume you realise that it may rain quite heavily in July, not all day but for at least an hour or so, and also the humidity levels will be very high. Presumably the Best Western that you mention is the Oceanside, it is not within reasonable walking distance of the ';action'; on Las Olas, but seems to be a nice choice. I took a look around it a couple of years ago but have never managed to get a room there, they sell out really quickly, but in July you may be OK.

Thank you suewick, it might help us decide. We have been in the area before, but never stopped to look at the hotel. Thanks.

Both hotels have their strong points. Gallery One is all suites so there is a separate bedroom and a pull-out couch in the living room. I love that option when traveling with children - everyone has some semblence of privacy! The fact that it%26#39;s on the Intracoastal is also nice because you can sit by the pool and watch the boats go by. With the hotel being next door to the Galleria Mall, there are many options for dining if you don%26#39;t want to bring food in (there%26#39;s a small kitchenette in the suites) or eat at the hotel%26#39;s dining room. Capital Grill, Season%26#39;s 52, the cafe at Nieman Marcus, or just the food court at the mall, all have a variety of food for your choosing.

The Best Western, on the other hand, is 1 block from the beach and you%26#39;ll typically feel an ';ocean breeze'; to help keep the humitity under control.

However, as Sue said, summer is rainy season and you may have to contend with that situation. But keep in mind.....there%26#39;s always something to do indoors to help pass the time!

Gallery One is also one of the eleven ';stops'; on the Water Taxi. The Water Taxi is a must-do if you are interested in getting on a boat on the intracoastal waterways and seeing the homes %26amp; yachts of the Rich and Famous or simply Filthy Rich. Your teenager might enjoy it was well. Tickets are $12.00 for an all day pass that allows you to get on and off the boat as many times as you want.

I have never stayed at the Gallery One, so cannot comment on that. Enjoy your vacation!

I have stayed at the Gallery One. No one uses the pool, you will be fine. It is a five minute walk to the beach. At night it is very nice being close to the mall. Across the street is a great french bakery but get the coffee at Starbuck%26#39;s nearby.
