Renting a car whilst in orlando

Hi we are in orlando for a month but dont really want to drive so have not pre hired a car. If we should want to hire one for a week while we are their who should we use. We are out there with Virgin and I know they will arrange one for us but at what cooooost!

An ideas please

Well you could ask Virgin for a start.

but I think that being there for 4 weeks w/o a car is unthinkable, although others here do it and would disaggree.

Start off with the Alamo or Dollar.co.uk sites. choose the pick up town rather than airport option. then pick the one nearest your hotel you%26#39;ve chosen. then choose the size you want and the number of days/weeks and it will give you a price. Then once you%26#39;ve done that you can shop around and see it you can get it cheaper from a consolidator like Airline Network, Usrentacar etc.

Or call your hotel, they might have a car rental service there.

i would not go without a car. imo you defo need a car for most if not all that time.

i know some people disagree and talk about the public transport and shuttles available, but after a long day the wait and ride which can take god knows how longs would just ruin my holiday for me!!!

if you don%26#39;t want a car, pm scan60, he is great with the buses and such

Best advice I can give you - hire a car !!!!!

Driving is easy in Florida, getting about without one will be a pain in the -----.

May be OK if staying on Disney as can use Disney transport but you will want to explore outside anyway.

You say you are going with Virgin for a month but dont say which hotel. And folks on here are making the assumption that you have booked an hotel

Which begs the question have you booked an hotel.

Or Have you booked a villa with them,

Cos if you have booked a villa you will have some very long walks as very few villa sites have shuttle bus service.

None if any at all have a public service bus. and you could have some horrendous taxi bills if you dont have a car.

But as for getting a car when you are out there this is not a good Idea as you will pay a good deal more for hire and full cover insurance is even more expensive.

If you are going to have a car book it with one of the UK car hire sites before you go

Hi bbsock

I am very much like you and unable to make a decision re car hire. Ultimately I think it would be more convenient, however, I%26#39;m trying to get my head around driving on the wrong side of the road......and driving from the front passenger seat!! Also not good with the mile thing, it%26#39;s kilometres at my end. :)

I would try Priceline or hotwire if you are able to. ALthough, you might have to bump the rate per day up a little, for having it out that long. Also might want to think about insurance. Besides, in the U.S. we always drive on the right side of the road.;)

So knew that was coming!

I am now determined to rent a car and zip around Orlando on the wrong side of the road (right to you).

I think you might find 1 month in Orlando without a car the worst mistake you will ever make...........

Do you know over how big an area the attractions are spread out. You will spend most of your time waiting for public transport, and you will undoubtedly miss some great places to see and dine just because of the hassle getting there.

Unless you Totally rely on public transport in the UK and never use a car in the UK, you will feel you have ruined your holiday.

You need to book an all inclusive deal this side of the pond before you go.

OK you guys I hear you all loud and clear. So you will be pleased to know that I have taken your advice and booked a car for 10 days in the middle of our vacation. Have used www.usrentacar.co.uk

I can have the car delivered to my hotel and picked up again from there. That takes a great load of my mind.

Thanks for all your help

No prob bb,

just get back to us for suggestions on where to go now you got wheels lol!
