';close by'; golf for father and young son

Our first trip to Sanibel in April - youpi ! I have been reading the forums (merci to all of you for your contributions) so am feeling quite knowledgeable, but have not seen anything about golf. My husband would like to find a par 3 for him and our 5-year-old, preferably on island or not very far. And I%26#39;d like to treat my husband to 18 holes on a very good course. All suggestions welcome for both. Many thanks.

This kind of outside my area of expertise, but I%26#39;ll try till the real golfers weight in.

The par 3 nine hole course is up on South Seas Resort and open to guests of the resort only. The best 18 hole golf course is on Sanibel on the bay side of the island - Dunes Golf and Tennis Club. My understanding is it%26#39;s challenging as far as water hazards are concerned, but not otherwise a great course, but most golfers seem to have fun. The one at South Seas is a beautiful course, but not challenging - which would suit your needs, but again, only if you stay there.

There is a private course on Sanibel in the Sanctuary development that is open only to members. It%26#39;s 18 holes and said to be good, best of then all. Cape Coral and surrounding towns have outstanding golf courses available. Many within 1 hour of Sanibel.

Naples Ritz Carlton Golf Resort and Hyatt Coconut Point in Estero, both have golf courses but neither are beach front. I%26#39;ll let the golfers comment on the courses.

I%26#39;m more Pirates Cove golf. There is a mini-golf course in Ft Myers on Gladiolus. Castle Golf.

I haven%26#39;t played these courses myslef. I usually play up in Orlando.

For not having expertise in this area, Tourmaline%26#39;s reply is right on.

Another option would be Beachview Golf %26amp; Tennis, moderately challenging and centrally located on Sanibel. Playing from the red%26#39;s would be highly suggested for a 5 year old at any course. You may also want to call the course and see if you can get the last tee time of the day. This will eliminate having other golfers behind you an allow you to take your time.

Beachview is the easiest course however it is not a par 3.....I would talk to them and find out the best time of day to take a child. There is an afternoon time that the price goes down as well as the amount of people on the course. April is less crowded.....depending on how many snowbirds have left during your time frame.

The Dunes near the causeway is a very nice course and has A LOT of water and can frustrate even the best golfer from time to time. My husband really enjoys the course. Have a camera, depending on the time of day LOTS of Birds and Gators.

If golfing early or dusk have something in case the no-see-ums are out. The vegetation along the golf cart paths, and the amount of water on the courses they can be a problem.
