10,000 Island and loop road

Everglades National Park Boat Tour

A two-hour boat tour operates daily out of the Gulf Coast Everglades Visitor Center (Everglades City). The cruise follows a loop route through the heart of the Ten Thousand Islands. A naturalist relates the natural history of the area and helps identify wildlife. Manatees are spotted 80 percent of the time. Bottle-nosed dolphin, osprey, and bald eagles are commonly seen. Open year-round including holidays.

Directions: Located on the causeway between Everglades City and Chokoloskee Island.

Dates: Open year-round.

For more information: Everglades National Park, PO Box 119, Everglades City, FL 33929. Phone (800) 445-7724.

The Loop road you are referring to, I am assuming is the Shark Valley loop. If so, it is a little over an hour away from Everglades City (actually have half-way between the east and west coasts of Florida) on Highway 41. You cannot drive the loop road in your car. You must either take the tram tour, bicycle or walk.

Hope that helps!

Oh thanks this helps..........do you know the cost.

I don%26#39;t know the cost and you would want to be careful accepting cost info from an internet reader forum. Fuel prices have been going up quickly. It is a toll-free call, just give them a ring.

We are staying on Marco Island would this be within a good driving range for us? We have 2 children along.

It is about an hour%26#39;s drive from Marco to Everglades City. From Marco it is about an hour and a half to the Shark Valley Visitor%26#39;s Center.

super!!

Depending on how much time you will be there and the ages of your children, you may also want to take a drive up to Sanibel Island for shell collecting. It%26#39;s a little over an hour north of Marco.

oh yeah it is on the list. My husband and I have been to Shark Valley before but didn%26#39;t stay close enough to make a second trip back this time we will. I am really interested in the boat tour of the 10,000 islands.

There is an actual loop road, not the one spoken about earlier. You can drive on it and we found it to be much better that the one other people have spoken about. It%26#39;s not really advertised, blink and you%26#39;ll miss it, we found it because it was mentioned in a florida guide book i bought. It%26#39;s worth searching for, we been there a couple of times and your more or less face to face with the crocs!!!!

Karen,

Care to give us some directions to your loop road? Sounds great!
