Daytona Beach vs. Panama City Beach

We are a 40%26#39;s couple with a 17 year old son. We have gone to Panama City Beach several times, because my husband and son really enjoy the things to do there. Is Daytona Beach comparable in things to do? They like to do the go karts, mini-golf, and things such as that. I like shopping and sunbathing. Would they be disappointed in Daytona Beach? I want something nice and different this year. We plan on going the week after July 4th.

Thanks

Atlantic side has colder water, it%26#39;s not blue and the sand is not white.

But you can drive on Daytona Beach in your car (for a fee, of course).

Atlantic will be warm at DB in July. We go in June and the ocean is warm enough then too. The sand looks white to me but not bright white like the gulf. The ocean and waves are breathtaking in DB. So many things to do right on the beach like boogie boards, go carts, katamaran rides, ATV rentals, jet skiing, wind surfing, etc. Driving on the beach is aweome and not dangerous at all. Plenty of safe atreas to sunbathe. It is $5.00 for the whole day! You can leave and come back as they give you a sticker. Plenty of shopping and other things to do as well. I have been to Panama City and personally didn%26#39;t like it near as much.I think you will love it.

I keep reading about blue and/or clear ocean water, but none of the beaches we have visited on either coast has had clear or blue (maybe blue looking from your hotel room) water.

We have been to Clearwater (it wasn%26#39;t), Treasure Island (not clear or blue), New Smyrna, Cocoa Beach, Daytona, all the water looked the same to us.

How about Panama City? When you stand in the waves can you see the bottom or does it look cloudy/sandy? Seems like it would have to be a lagoon or somewhere protected from the waves to be clear? Thanks in advance for any info.

If you are looking for clear, blue water, you have to go on down to Ft Lauderdale and Miami. The water there is so clear you can see the sand and is awesome. I haven%26#39;t actually been to Daytona but we have been all around it and are looking forward to coming in July. But, we tend to like the Atlantic coast much better than the Gulf Coast so I think you will be happy with it. From what I have researched, there is alot to do there or within driving distance.
