Key West Prices

in general is the price of food and drink expensive ?

Key West Prices

in Ireland it cost cost about $8 fora beer and to eat out could cost anything upto $100 per head not including drink

Key West Prices

You can do much better than that here in the states.Happy hour will be when you find your best prices for drinks. You should be able to have a nice dinner and drinks for 100 bucks a couple.Peace SYOTR

It really depends on where you eat and where you drink. You could spend $100 a head for dinner in KW, but it%26#39;s not normally that much. I%26#39;d say $100 for 2 is normal, but that%26#39;s with drinks and a tip.

Topcat,

KW is nowhere near that expensive overall. Yes, there are a couple places where you could spend that but for the most part you will pay about 1/2 that and during Happy Hours its even cheaper. There are lots of places with great deals for happy hour and some good places for cheap eats. Do a search and you will find lots of places mentioned.

This itinerary, with sample prices for breakfast and dinner and happy hours, as well as activities and gifts, is from a couple of years ago, but I was looking at a pile of receipts I found from %26#39;04 and %26#39;05, and it does not seem that prices have changed very much.

Dublin rates 16th in most expensive city%26#39;s in the world. Key West Does not even make the list. New York was 15th according to CNN. I think your euro will go along way in the states.

Most places are also VERY generous with their portions and it would not be unreasonable for 2 adults to split an entree and still get more than enough to eat.

Fogarty%26#39;s is a very good example of this.

Its not horrible, but it is high. Then again, compared to what you%26#39;re used to, everything can be a bargain.

You should also be able to find plenty of places where 2 of you can eat for under $50.00. Unless you want to go more fine dining and to be honest, some of the places not as fancy are just as good.

I came across a pile of receipts from 2004 / 2005. Key West may be expensive for some, but it is relatively consistant.

3 margeritas at the Beach Bar %26amp; Grill (Pier House) $19.50, charged to room 427.

2 dozen oysters on the 1/2 shell, 1 bourbon (my friend Dace) and a Bloody Mary: $15.42. You can%26#39;t do this anymore. Crabby Bills%26#39; is now Guy Harvey

Two Friends%26#39; Patio Restaurant, $12.31 breakfast for one. This would not be too much more today

1 Bloody Mary, 1 draft beer, a dozen shrimp, $20.85 at the 1/2 Shell. Comparable to today.

1 bourbon (Dace, again) 1 Bloody mary, 1/2 lb stone crab, $23.75 at Turtle Kraals. Comparable in season.

6 Bloody Marys at the old Sands Beach Club - $26.47. We were lucky to get find our way back to the Casa Marina which is two blocks away. This is gone now.

Breakfast for one at Croissants de France, $16.88. More now, but not much.

Dinner for two at El Meson de Pepe, $40.49 and this will cost more now, but there is a 15% gratuity added, even back then. (2 Jack Danials (Dace), 1 cafe con leche (me), 1 mollete (?), pepe%26#39;s nachos, and garlic shrimp. A bargain)

1 Bloody Mary at the Beach Bar %26amp; Grill, 6.75. Ah, the good old days. (There are 8 separate checks for 1 Bloody Mary)

Dinner at Santiagos, $35.00. This must have been three tapas and two glasses of Sangria. $52.23 for the next night as we had another three tapas but we switched to a pitcher of Sangria ($25.00)

Martins Cafe for brunch at the old location, $46.25. One of these was an open faced sandwich, and no booze!

Breakfast for two at Pepe%26#39;s on Caroline, $25.70. Comparable.

Dinner at Blue Heavan, $64.50. 1 grouper special and one dinner special, 2 glasses of blanc de blanc. (I must have been trying to impress someone. It didn%26#39;t work IIRC)

one mojito at El Meson de Pepe, $8.50 which is approx the same as today or $1.00 less (drowning my sorrow after that blankity blanc de blanc)

Memories.

Peter, you need to clean out your sock draw. Why are you holding on to old receipts.
