Pop Resort or spend the money for a moderate?

Hi,

I was wondering what your opinions are regarding spending the money for a moderate resort vs. just staying at a value resort. What I mostly care about is the wait time for buses to Disney. Is it significantly better at the moderate resorts? Also, how would I get to downtown disney from a value resort?

Thanks so much!

Pop Resort or spend the money for a moderate?

You can get to Downtown Disney from all the Resorts by Bus. You can get to Downtown Disney from two of the Moderate Resorts, Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter by Boat also.

The Value Resorts are clean, comfy and fun but they are very basic and only have a Food Court and not a Table Service Restaurant. That%26#39;s not a big deal to most people because you are at the Parks all day long and can eat at the over 100 other Disney Resorts and Parks Restaurants.

The Moderates are a step-up and offer bigger rooms, bigger Pools, they have Hot Tubs and more activities for the kids.

The Bus system from all the Resorts works quite well, IMO. the Value AllStar Resorts ( there are 3 ) Share Bus Service and there can be longer waits for these ( if you call 20 minutes a long wait ). The 4th Value Resort, Pop Century has it%26#39;s own Bus Service.

The 2 Port Orleans Moderate Resorts share Bus Service, but again, it%26#39;s not a problem, IMO, and we have never had to wait more then 20 minutes at any given time of the day.

If you are leaving a Park at closing time, along with the 1000%26#39;s of other Guests, there will be some waiting for the Bus, but agian, not for hours, or anything close to that. Everyone is on Holiday, no need to be in a hurry :)

Have a look, if you haven%26#39;t already, at

allears.net

or

wdwinfo.com

Both have great pages on each Disney Resort. Narrow it down to which ones seem of interest and we can give more insight to you. We can let you know if there are any Rehabs going on at the Resorts for the time you%26#39;re thinking of going.

Pop Resort or spend the money for a moderate?

it really depends on who your party includes....if you have kids and are going to want to be in the parks all day and not hanging out at your resort, then save the money and stay at Pop Century....we have stayed in the moderates and values....our daughter (currently 9) decides where we stay and we have stayed at Pop our past several visits....it is very cute and colorful, HUGE characters, the grounds are beautiful, it has a huge food court (we only eat breakfast and late night snacks here because we eat at the tons of other places in the parks/dtd/deluxe resorts, a nice walk around the lake, 3 pools (one huge feature pool and two other themed smaller pools), and most importantly does not share buses with any other resort....we dont spend much time in our room...the moderate rooms are slightly larger but nothing to speak of, they have double sinks which we dont care that much about, and they do have a minifridge (but you can rent one at pop for $10 per night which is still cheaper than staying at the moderates)....the one thing we did love about staying at Port Orleans was the boat launch to downtown disney...but if you just want to experience that, you dont have to be staying at that resort to do it....you can catch a bus from pop to downtown disney also...the moderates do have a feature pool with small waterslides and hot tub, but since we always do the water parks also, this isnt a big enough deal to keep us from staying at pop.....if you have little kids that are in love with toy story or 101 dalmations, then we also like all star movies....it was our little girls favorite when she was 3 and 4....all of the all star resorts share buses but we never had a really large wait...a little longer than pop, but not so bad that i wouldnt stay there....hope this helps

Hi Sillehh,

From my experience at WDW and seeing the queues for the buses they all seemed about the same to me!

However, if you are just going to use your room for just sleeping then definitely go for the value resort!!!

I have stayed at Pop Century last June, and we thought it was ace for the price!!

Happy Travels!!! :0) Mango

My husband and I (in our 50%26#39;s) stayed at POP last year. It was perfect for us. All we needed was a room to sleep and shower. We were otherwise in a park. If you are going to USE the resort for more relaxing time, then go for the moderate. If you are going for the parks, save your $$ to spend on yourself!

When I plan another trip, it will be for the value resort again.

It is truly what you prefer. The only thing the mods offer over values are slightly larger rooms with minifridge and hotel style mini bottles of toiletries as opposed to a wall mount soap dispenser @ values. Generally quieter resort, upgraded pool area with hot tub and water slide. And at least 1 sit down dining restaurant as opposed to food court only @ values. Bus service difference is minimal if any. The only reason we typically shy away from the values is for a quieter resort area and the kids love the waterslide. (Values ';noise'; caused by guest staying up past park closing to swim late nite. Doesn%26#39;t seem to be a prob @ mods) For first few Disney trips, I would recommend you try the values first and work your way up in following trips.

Make sure to call Disney reservations to get a quote. I called to inquire about a Value resort and was given a special to stay at a Moderate resort for the same price which I was happy to book. You never know.....
