';FANTASMIC'; and dining questions

This forum is SO helpful, but I still don%26#39;t completely ';get it';. I know I have probably asked or read this before but...

I read somewhere that for the Fantasmic show you have to have reservations? You mean you can%26#39;t just be in MGM that day and stand on the street and see it? What kind of show is it exactly? If this is true, how do I do this?

Also, wondering about eating...after reading reviews I wanted to make a reservation at Boma, but they do not serve lunch. Since we do not have that many days, (we have 3 nights, but two are in parks) should we try to get a late reservation after we leave park one day (I doubt that will work for us~ we will be tired), try to go Friday night, (we arrive at MCO around 5:30, but wanted to go to DTD or hang around our hotel property that night, OR

is there ANYWHERE in EPCOT that we could eat that maybe would be a taste of this experience; a decent plan B, if you will?

Our skeletal plan is this:

We are staying at POR.

One day at MGM

One day at EPCOT.

Have two kids 11/13.

NO park hopper.

allowing whole day at MGM b/c of ESPN weekend events.

Third day have to leave for airport about 2:30.

HELP! And MANY thanks in advance!

';FANTASMIC'; and dining questions

If you want the primo seats for Fantasmic you can do a dinner and show kind of thing (you can arrange that by calling (407) WDW-DINE, I htink), but I was just there a year ago and we didn%26#39;t wait in any lines/make any reservations. We went to the second showing one night, walked in a few minutes before it started, got seats, and enjoyed!

Maybe it%26#39;s changed since then?

';FANTASMIC'; and dining questions

POR is lovely...once you are checked in Going to DTD would be nice for you. Is there anyway you can get the park hopper for your disney tickets? I would suggest it highly for the limited amount of time that you are there and spend you first full day at Disney by starting off at Magic Kingdom (with your kids ages....Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain rairoad, Haunted Mansion to name a few) especially if you have never been to Disney. Then in the afternoon go to MGM now renamed Disney Studios and take advantage of the Fantasmic Dinner package:http://www.allears.net/din/fantdin1.htm

On your second day Epcot....if you do spring for the hopper...go to animal kingdom first for a few hours to ride Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, Safari ride, see the Tree of life then head over to Epcot due to the fact it is open later.

I know the $180 for the extra Park Hopper part sounds expensive but if you have never been to Disney before it is truly worth it. Yes...you won%26#39;t see everything but it will give you a fine taste of what Disney has to offer.

You can%26#39;t see Fantasmic from the Street. It is in a Theatre.

It can be quite crowded if there is only one show going on the night you will be there.

Having the Package is very nice if, 1) you enjoy a nice Sit Down Table Service Meal ( I%26#39;d recomend Mama Melrose%26#39;s ) before the Show and 2) you don%26#39;t want to stand in line to get in to see Fantasmic ( you will go to a different line and walk right in to your pre-selected Seats.

Going to Boma would take a good chunck of time away from being at the Parks, too bad, because it is one of our favourites ( it leaves something to look forward to for your next trip tho )

My recomendations for Dining at Epcot would be Coral Reef, I think your kids would enjoy that.

POR is great :) I would check-in, have a little look around the Resort, take the Boat to DTD and have a Bite to eat and then go back to POR for a Nice Swim and a good nights rest.

Just doing HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS and EPCOT will fill your days up and you%26#39;ll have a swell time

Hello BHlkin,

1. You DO NOT need reservations to see Fantasmic. Anyone in the Hollywood Studios park at the time of the show can see Fantasmic. You must enter the special amphitheater to see the show and it cannot be seen ';outside'; this amphitheater from other parts of the Studios park.

Fantasmic is a night-time, multi-media show containing live Disney characters, actors, and ';video villains'; from many of the Disney films over the years. The show is performed inside an amphitheater with a moat of water surrounding the main stage. Water fountain sprays are used as ';video screens'; for the video portions of the show. There are fireworks to a small degree in this show too. There are floats with characters that move around the moat.

The Fantasmic dining package is a program whereby you book reservations at certain restaurants inside the park and by having the ';package'; deal, you are guaranteed a reserved seat for the Fantasmic show on the evening of your dinner. The seating area is a roped-off section of the amphitheater that only those with the dining package can sit in. However, it%26#39;s location is on the far right hand side of the seating area, so you have a side view if you sit in this area. The advantage is that you have a reserved seat and don%26#39;t have to show up a long time before the show to find a place to sit.

2. I don%26#39;t know of any other restaurants that would be a good substitute for the food you%26#39;d be getting at Boma at the AKL. If you really want to eat at Boma, I%26#39;d go for the Friday night of your arrival and forego DTD.

3. You could always go to Downtown Disney on the day of your departure instead of the Friday night of arrival (that way you could go to Boma on Friday night). Most everything opens by 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM, and you%26#39;ll have a few hours to roam around there before having to leave for the airport.

Just my thoughts.

This is great advice, thank you.

So if we ';show up'; for the show at the theater early enough, we wait in line and are seated? Kat, your description was great, thank you.

I do not wnat to prioritize dining, but do want to take opportunity if it works out. Don%26#39;t want to waste $ on food that is gross~in Disney, I am thinking it is mainly the atmosphere/experience, etc.

We do not have time to do Park Hopper, and it is expensive, and, for the way our family does things, stressful.

Fortunately, we are not that far, and can maybe return another year.

We do not have time to do MK, but have been there before. We are coming for the ESPN weekend, so will spend time in the Studios for those events.

EPCOT will be our other day we are not at Studios.

Thanks all,

Miller

The Fantasmic amphitheater usually open 1.5 hours before showtime (2 hours in the busy seasons, I think).

So, yes, if you are waiting in line for the amphitheater to open, you simply file in with the crowd and find you a place to sit at your choosing. The amphitheater is pretty big, but obviously the seats in the middle sections go first.

Unless you want to get wet, I recommend about 2/3rd of the way to the top of the amphitheater is the best seating. Some folks want to be down front, but they do get wet down there.

boma is great and personally would pick it over DTD for dining my first night if it was the only time i could work it in during the trip....you can also tour the grounds of the lodge and view the animals to relax a bit....you will need to either arrive at the fantasmic theatre an hour to hour 1/2 before the show or catch the late one if they are offering it twice on the day you are there....OR if you have one adult who wouldn%26#39;t mind doing it, send one of your troops in to hold seats while the other adult hits rock n roller coaster and tower of terror (both are right near the amphitheater) with the kids so the kids dont have to sit so long.....OR do the dinner package (would choose mama melrose)...if you dont do the dinner package then i recommend 50s prime time cafe for dinner.....and at epcot, i recommend le cellier, nine dragons or san angel inn.....for dinner at epcto, make sure you schedule no later than 7:00-7:15 if you want to be out in time to find a decent viewing spot for illuminations at 9:00
