Siesta Key Beach

I saw this beach on a Travel Channel special about the top Florida beaches. This was #2 on the list. How far is this beach from Orlando?

Is the sand really like baby powder?

Is this a good family beach to go to? We would be there in December. If not this beach, can anyone offer other suggestions? Thanks!

Siesta Key Beach

The beach is approx 2 hrs from Orlando.

And yes the sand is as fine as baby powder, I have never seen anything like it.

It is a great island / key which has some quaint shops and restaurants and really is the best place to kick back and slow down.

The beach is always clean and well presented and is easy to access.

You might want to check out Decembers temps before committing to a full beach holiday though.

Siesta Key Beach

Hi,

Another thing about Crescent Beach at Siesta Key is that however high the temperature gets, being quartz, the ';sand'; stays cool underfoot. Brilliant beach town as well. Our favourite destination every year. Enjoy it.

Regards, H.

Thanks for the help! I was worried about the beach because last December, we went to Cocoa Beach and I became very sick from the red tide. We will have two nights to spend at the beach. Can anyone recommend a place to stay?

Excuse my ignorance about beaches, but is Crescent Beach the only beach at Siesta Key? If not, which beach would be the most family-friendly? When searching for accomodations, should I be looking under Siesta Key or Crescent Beach? Thanks!!

There is some variation in the type of sand on different beach areas of Siesta Key. If you can find something on Crescent Beach, you will be assured of being in the beautiful, white quartz sand area. The sands on the southern area of the Key, I believe it is called Turtle Beach, are a bit more like regular beach sands such as you find in most places around Florida. However, I understand there has been a lot of beach restoration going on down there recently.

There is a wonderful expert on the Siesta Key forum, (SRQ Girl)who will be able to give you an up-to-date report and make suggestions for accommodations that might meet your needs. It%26#39;s a great family vacation destination with lots to do in the surrounding Sarasota area if you want a bit of time away from the sun, sand, and water.

Thanks Grandma! I will go on the Siesta Key forum and get some more info! I am not a beach person at all, so this will be a learning process!

caylismom,

In the Sarasota forum, SRQGirl is the reigning queen.

Touch base with her. I found her advice right on the mark for my recent trip to Lido Key.

If Siesta Key is full, you can go about five miles north of there to Lido Key for almost the exact same type of beaches and you are a little closer to shopping.

We always visit Siesta Key and will be there again on 26th April, just dont walk across the car park in bare feet as its ...ohhh so hot !!

There is a little cafe and ice cream shop there and a shower/change area. You can wade a fare distance out before you loose your footing and the sand is very fine, you can also go hunting for Sand-dollars, we found some and a few nice shells and with a bit of sand in a glass bowel it makes a nice ornament, friends have seen some we did and want us to do some for them.

Also visit St Armands as ther is a nice Cuban style cafe/restraunt there and some nice shops...

OrchidVi, Where do you usuallu stay at Siesta Key?
